This Per Diem professional reports to and functions under the general supervision of the Director of Radiology and potentially the Unit Operations Manager and or Technical manager; operates ultrasonic equipment and performs diagnostic procedures such as abdominal, pelvic, vascular, and interventional sonograms which require the application of ultrasonic technology; maintains pertinent records and statistical data.
Reviews patient history and other supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.
Explains procedures to patients to assure cooperation and optimum test results; positions patient.
Selects appropriate transducer depending upon depth of field, organ to be identified, etc.
Conducts scanning procedures using ultrasound equipment; move transducer over specified body area, adjusting equipment to produce optimum image; records digital images as directed for radiologist interpretation.
Reschedules tests, as necessary, due to poor prep, etc.
Ensures that all soft copy images are transferred to archive, downloads all images from portable scanning to archive, uses laser printer to reproduce hard copy images, as needed.
Assembles methods and all necessary information and diagnostic images for Radiologist.
Assists physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, renal biopsies, etc.; scans patient, marks patient's body, determines angle for puncture while maintaining sterile technique.
Provides on-the-job training to students as assigned.
Maintains a clean working area (i.e. clean laundry bags, counters, cabinets, machines, etc.).
Ensures cleanliness of all probes, including appropriate disinfectant techniques for endocavity probes.

3+ years experience as a Vascular Ultrasound Technologist. Must have RVT. Ability to perform General Ultrasound as well as Breast Ultrasound is a plus.
CPR Certified.
Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
Knowledge of the principles of ultrasound physics and radiographic chemistry.
Knowledge of ultrasound imaging and ultrasound equipment.
Knowledge of universal precautions.
