Philips, proud to again be recognized as one of the 100 Best Global Brands, has an immediate opening at its Wide-Lite Division, working out of its state-of-the-art facility in San Marcos, TX, for an experienced Product Design Engineer who has significant High Mast and Roadway lighting experience. 

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Product Design Engineer reports directly to the Wide-Lite Director of Engineering and is responsible for the development of new products and product improvements through design, testing, tooling and pilot production.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  Ensure the timely development of new products from conception to product  

   release.

 

  Provides the interface necessary between Engineering and Manufacturing

   to facilitate the process from design to pilot run to full scale production in

   order to meet target dates and to ensure a high level of DFM (design for

   manufacturability).

 

  Utilizes knowledge, experience and expertise in roadway and high mast

   lighting to design highly innovative, cutting-edge fixtures.

  Performs research and development on new components and product

   evaluation of new materials.

 

  Prepare design drawing from sketches, specification or other materials as

   well as create virtual models as needed.

 

  Troubleshoots all problems relating to products, design and implementation

   including production problems, purchasing issues, testing, and value

   engineering.

 

  Provides support to manufacturing for problem identification, BOMs as well

   as deviations and substitution of parts.

 

  Provides engineering support to Sales, Marketing, Production Control and

   Quality to ensure products are produced and marketed per standards.

 

  Performs essential functions in compliance with the ISO 9001-2008

   standard.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  B.S. Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience in HID

   lighting and 2+ years experience in Roadway and High Mast.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES AND JOB SKILLS

 

  Strong computer skills including AutoCad, Solid Works and Microsoft Office.

 

  Highly creative with a flair for designing innovative fixtures.

 

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

  Ability to enjoy and thrive in a work environment geared toward growth

   including the ability to do sustained hard work to meet aggressive product   

   introduction target dates.

 

  Ability to effectively work as a cross-functional team leader or member.

 

  Knowledge of ISO-9001-2008 standard as well as ManMan and/or SAP.
