Packaging Technician

Due to growth through a recent acquisition, Sergeant’s Pet Care Products has an exciting opening for an experienced Packaging Technician.   This full-time position is located in the Kansas City, KS plant.

Position Summary

During your shift, you will be responsible for packing products into containers as they come down the line while monitoring the product, labels and packaging and report any defects.  You will be held accountable for efficiencies and will be responsible for completing all necessary paperwork.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Monitor product, labels and packaging and report any defects.

·         Operate a variety of packaging  machines

·         Perform general  housekeeping duties including sweeping the floor around the packaging machine area, removing the trash, preparing for next day’s/shift’s production, and finalizing any paperwork

·         Follow all of the facility GMP policies and standards to ensure regulatory compliance and food safety.

·         On a regular basis, lift boxes ranging from 1 pound to 50 pounds from table level to floor and above the head. 

Knowledge and Skills

·         Basic knowledge of hand tools is essential

·         Mechanical aptitude and ability is necessary

·         2 years of experience in a food plant preferred

·         Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.

·         High school diploma or equivalent is required.

·         Requires the ability to act independently without direct supervision as well as to support a team to accomplish critical and timely objectives

·         Must have excellent written, oral and computer communications skills to effectively communicate in person, through letters/emails/reports, and/or over the phone.

·         General manufacturing equipment experienced preferred.
