Job Description

The supervisor of payroll is responsible for the day to day management of payroll operations including, procedures, policies, supporting the payroll team, establishing, delivering and monitoring service level commitments, and appropriate delegation of day to day work requests.  He/she also assists the Director/Manager in providing strategic direction; implements best practices; sets operational policies and procedures; accomplishes business process improvements; develops, trains and mentors payroll department staff.

 

  • Advocates change in functional area as it pertains to new policies and procedures, business process improvements and new technology
  • Review and approve payroll prior to acceptance of final processing, including special items
  • Monitor federal, state and local taxes, Social Security contributions, employee benefit contributions, garnishments, and other deductions to ensure accuracy of individual paychecks
  • Evaluate and implement appropriate payroll policies and controls for payroll processing and incorporate system enhancements to increase efficiency and ensure data integrity

Requirements

  • Associates degree in accounting, business management or related field; six years experience with multi-state, multi-company employer or equivalent combination of work experience and education
  • Three years minimum supervisory experience required
  • Proficiency with ADP applications (PC Payroll for Windows, ReportSmith, Enterprise E-Time, ADP Connection, ADP GL Connection)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, familiar with SAP, and working knowledge of GAAP
  • Knowledge federal and state wage and labor laws, employee benefit plans, employment practices and payroll taxes
  • ADP Certified Payroll Specialist (ADP – CPS) designation preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
