PAYROLL SUPERVISOR

Supervises payroll processing activities to ensure the accurate and timely completion of tasks.  Interviews job applicants and recommends the hiring of personnel.  Schedules work hours and assigns job duties.  Evaluates employee work performance.  Counsels, disciplines and recommends the termination of personnel as indicated.  Provides assistance and guidance to others regarding payroll activities.  Ensure the timely completion of bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls.  Monitors reconciliations for various payroll general ledger accounts.  Performs various projects and participates on project teams as assigned.

REQUIRED:

·         College level coursework in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance;  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

·         Experience in coordinating and controlling multiple major projects

Extensive payroll experience to include:

·         Preparation of government reports

·         Automated payroll systems and their interrelationship with corporate financial systems (e.g. Budget, Accounting, HR Benefit systems)

·         Payroll disbursement processing

·         Auditing, balancing and reconciling data

Knowledge of:

·         PeopleSoft Payroll software, including Time & Labor

·         Federal, State and Local tax regulations pertaining to payroll reporting

·         Wage laws (e.g. payment of overtime earnings)

·         Employee benefit effects on payroll

·         Federal and State tax levy and garnishment laws and regulations

·         ACH/Direct Deposit rules

·         In-house payroll processing procedures, including balancing and quality assurance

·         Audit techniques (query & report writing)

·         Payroll accounting & general ledger

·         User oriented programming languages for extracting and reporting data

Supervisory ability to include:

·         Budgeting, staffing, scheduling and training

·         Problem analysis and decision making

·         Individual performance assessment

Ability to:

·         Communicate effectively with others in a work environment and with the public

·         Prepare and present reports to management

·         Design enhancements to existing or new payroll/financial systems

·         Analyze and resolve problems

·         Work in a team environment

Preferred:

·         Certified Payroll Professional designation

·         Experience in a lead or supervisory capacity

Knowledge of:

·         Employee benefit procedures and programs

·         Tax levies and garnishments

·         Bank and credit union direct deposit activities
