The Pediatric Trauma Coordinator reports directly to the Trauma Program Manager and is responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to provide quality care to the injured pediatric patient. The coordinator assumes day-to-day responsibility for process and performance improvement activities as they relate to nursing and ancillary medical personnel, and assists the trauma medical director in carrying out the same functions for the physicians.
Pediatric Trauma Coordinator duties include but are not limited to the following:
· Manage the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the Pediatric Trauma Program. Serve as a liaison to administration and represents the pediatric trauma program on various hospital and community committees.
· Participate in the development of trauma care systems at the community, state, and national levels.
· Establish direct community trauma education and injury prevention programs. Institute educational opportunities for inter-facility professional staff development.
· Supervise data collection, and develop processes for validation of data. Design the registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports and research.
· Planning and implementation of practice management guidelines and clinical protocols. Monitoring care of in hospital patients, serving as a resource for clinical practice. Participate in pediatric trauma case review and follow-up.
· Monitor clinical processes, outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided. Develop quality filters, audits and case reviews to identify trends and sentinel events and assist in developing corrective activities.
· Stabilize the complex network of many disciplines to ensure high quality care. Serve as an internal resource for staff, and act as an extended liaison for Emergency Medical Services agencies.
· Facilitate protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback and analysis for research projects, analysis and distribution of findings.
In addition to administrative ability, qualified candidates must show evidence of educational preparedness and clinical expertise in the care of the injured patient. MUST be a registered nurse.
