Peer Support Specialist - Farmington, NM
 
Position Description: 
Models and promotes the core values of the Collaborative and OptumHealth New Mexico.  Position is responsible for assisting consumers with defining their goals for recovery, developing the skills and knowledge needed for the consumer's recovery, and accessing services; supporting consumers who need assistance placing grievance complaints; building the consumer centered and recovery orientation of the OptumHealth New Mexico through training, engagement in quality review, and enhancing the availability and accessibility of community consumer run programs and services.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Uses his/her own recovery experience and training to assist consumers with defining their recovery goals, and developing the skills and knowledge needed for the consumer's recovery.

  • Interface with local consumer run organizations and services in order to maintain current lists of available services and to provide support and assistance as agreed by OptumHealth and the local organization.

  • Help communicate plan information to and with consumers and consumer organizations.

  • Participate in OptumHealth quality review processes, gather quality information from consumers

  • Assist and support consumers with grievance processes.

  • Facilitate training events and education experiences with and for consumers and their families, as well as OptumHealth New Mexico staff, providers and agency personnel.

  • Collaborates with Care Coordinators, Utilization Managers, providers, and community agencies and organizations to facilitate access to and transition between services.

  • Collaborates with Care Coordinators, Utilization Managers, providers, and community agencies and organizations to identify consumers who may benefit from care coordination, and/or peer support.

  • Assists with the development of care coordination plans.

  • Through collaboration and consultation with other staff promotes a culture in which the consumer's unique recovery goals, needs, point of view and preferences are recognized, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.

  • Create peer and family support groups throughout the region

Qualifications:
 
The State of New Mexico requires UnitedHealth Group to ask the following questions as part of the application process for this position:
  • Self-disclosure as a current or former consumer of mental health or substance abuse services, required.

  • One (1) year demonstrated mental health or substance abuse recovery, required.

  • Current non-restricted driver's license, required.

  • 1 year + of data entry experience, required.

  • 1 year + or professional computer experience, required.

  • High school diploma or GED, required. Master's or doctoral degree in psychology, social work, counseling or related field; or registered psychiatric nurse, preferred.

  • Successful completion of a certified peer specialist training program, preferred.

  • Ability to facilitate training events.
