Performance and Scalability - Engineer IV

This position is within the Naming Product Development organization, specifically, Performance & Scalability group. Provides technical expertise in the tuning, testing and scaling all aspects of the key applications we build and support. Performs analysis of our Java/Weblogic/Oracle/MySQL based systems.


THE BIG PICTURE:
- Join the highly talented 'Performance & Scalability' Team
- Perform bottleneck analysis of java based applications using tools like JProbe and Jprofiler.
- Perform Java VM tuning, tweaking settings like memory, garbage collection and other optimization parameters
- Perform Application Server tuning (custom Java App Servers & WebLogic), thread counts, pool sizes, transaction settings, ejb settings etc.
- Experience with Unix operating system (Linux & AIX) including kernel parameter tuning, system health monitoring (SAR, tcp dumps, etc.), physical storage setup/tuning and shell scripting.
- Understands systems from end-to-end including the network layer and databases to perform thorough diagnosis and troubleshooting
- Exercise design and code walk-thrus with the developers/architects to identify performance hot-spots and suggest alternative solutions
- Write custom scripts in Load Runner and Grinder that exercise our b2b XML based API's.
- Run repeatable tests using these scripts that measure response times and system characteristics.
- Define test approach for areas of responsibility including performance, scalability, stability and endurance
- Responsible for creation and review of project test plans and test results.
- Define and coordinate work assignments with rest of the team

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
·        Minimum 8 years of software development experience
·        Minimum 6 years of coding experience using Java and other object oriented programming languages.  
·        Must have strong performance tuning experience of Java applications
·        Must have strong knowledge of Unix operating system (Linux & AIX) and physical storage setup/tuning. Previous experience with EMC and Netapp storage administration is a plus.   
·        Practical working experience with J2EE architecture.  
·        Strong experience in large scale and performance driven software development in an OO environment is required.
·        Must have experience working with relational databases such as Oracle
·        Great communication skills and interpersonal skills.  Must be able generate and present comprehensive reports to stakeholders with  detailed system performance analysis, forecasting and trending
·        Excellent problem solving skills in a team environment
·        Strong ability to work effectively as an individual and within a team.
 
EDUCATION
·        BS/BA in  Information Systems or  Computer Science /Engineering , and/or equivalent training and working experience.
·        Certifications in Java technologies are pluses.
