Princeton HealthCare System is currently searching for a Pharmacy Tech for the University Medical Center at Princeton.
The Pharmacy Tech is a member of the pharmacy department support staff who, under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs specific job responsibilities authorized by the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulation. Follows all procedures and techniques for aseptic preparation of parenteral products. Performs compounding of pharmaceutical preparations, including but not limited to: large volume parenteral solutions, intravenous piggybacks, epidural solutions, dialysis solutions, batched syringe products, and TPN solutions as assigned. Follows all procedures for the maintenance of the clean room, anteroom and IV workroom according to standards, including changing of laminar hood pre-filters and maintenance of equipment used in this area. Maintains medication inventory by assisting in ordering and receiving medication from wholesalers and vendors, completing paperwork relative to orders received, stocking all pharmacy areas, and maintaining inventory expiration records. Assists with medication inventory control on each nursing unit by performing nursing station reviews, stocking code cart trays, emergency boxes, Pyxis and resolving Pyxis drawer errors. Assists in the provision of pharmacy services to inpatients and outpatients for all units of Princeton HealthCare System, i.e., Princeton House Behavioral Health, Home Care, Merwick Rehab, UMCP, by assisting the pharmacists in dispensing functions, including but not limited to: accurately filling and labeling of all new and refill medications within defined time frames; filling of unit dose patient bins; timely delivery of medication bins and IV admixtures to each nursing unit; filling daily floor stock requests; and maintaining Pyxis inventory on units using this device. Performs compounding of non-parenteral products not available commercially. Such compounding may include, but is not limited to, suppositories, oncology mouthwash, capsules, powder papers, and oral solutions. Assists with the distribution and control of narcotics within the Pharmacy Department and to patient care areas. Retrieves narcotic products from the Pyxis CII Safe, labels according to established standards, and completes nursing unit narcotic inventory logs accordingly. Consistently responds to the needs of nursing, clinic patients, other healthcare providers and hospital personnel via telephone and at the pharmacy dispensing window.
Qualified candidates will be a High school graduate (college degree preferred). Will have or obtain the national “Certification for Pharmacy Technicians” (required within one year of employment). One year recent hospital pharmacy technical experience or several years of relevant pharmacy experience preferred. Accurate mathematical skills. Computer literacy. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
