Job Description

Caring for more than 225,000 children each year during more than 870,000 patient visits, Nemours is one of the nation's largest pediatric subspecialty group practices. This is in addition to many ongoing research and education programs conducted at Nemours.
Nemours owns and operates the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, as well as four major Children's specialty centers in Wilmington, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Pensacola.

Physical Therapist- Sports Medicine Program
.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides comprehensive physical therapy evaluation, treatment, and consultation independently to all patients across programs under the prescription of a physician within the guidelines designated by the department and hospital policy and procedures.

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages; pediatrics, adolescents and adults.
2. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment.
3. Performs all essential and marginal responsibilities for Staff I, Staff II and Senior Staff Physical Therapy job descriptions.
4. Provides/coordinates information and or effective evaluation and treatment strategies and support to families while considering the lifelong implications for various diagnoses of patients seen within the department.
5. Completes timely documentation as required by therapeutic services department policy 4.7, JCAHO and CARF standards.
6. Coordinates/attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member. Takes leadership role as indicated by team-case management, care team leader.
7. Coordinates collaboration with outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy/ hospital with child specific or specialty specific team members.
8. Provides inservice training programs and follows specific protocols/pathways for direct patient care issues as mandated by hospital specialty programs. When applicable works with staff to review and revise protocols/pathways.
9.  Assists with developing the new sports medicine program.

I. Education, Area of Study, Training and Experience:

A. Education, Training, Experience
1. B.S. or higher degree or certificate of proficiency in Physical Therapy.
2. Six years or more experience preferred.
3. Five years or more Sports Medicine/Orthopedics experience required.  Pediatric or adolescent experience preferred
4.  Physical Therapist with ATC degree or SCS specialty certification
5. Sports enhancement training program experience a plus

B. Other Requirements
1. Strong multi-specialty knowledge and experience as related to pediatrics
2. Strong written and verbal communication skills
3. Strong teaching and interpersonal skills.

II. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

A.License, Registration, or Certification
1.Delaware State License to practice Physical Therapy.
2.CPR Certification (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) within 6 months of employment.
3. Sports certified specialist (SCS)/certified strength and conditioning specialist(CSCS) preferred.
4.Member of professional specialty organizations (APTA, Delaware PT Association, SCI, TBI Associations, etc.) preferred.
