Provides effective and efficient physical therapy treatment to patients throughout all hospital units, treatment centers and inpatient homes following the prescribed treatment plan by the physical therapist in order to restore function, prevent or decrease disability following disease or injury, and assist patients to attain their maximum level of functional independence within the home and community while providing appropriate education on rehabilitation and care to both patients and caregivers.
Plans and conducts successful specialized therapy sessions:
a. Community Reintegration Outings (CROs)
b. Home Assessments
c. Group Therapy
Provides concise, thorough reports in team conferences.
Provides concise, thorough reports in family conferences.
Maintains current information on patient communication boards for rehabilitation unit patient rooms.
Provides discharge information regarding physical therapy progress and status to discharge services and/or facilities (home health, nursing home, residential care facility, etc., and to acute therapy or Rehab therapies, etc).
Involves the patient and caregivers in all aspects of the evaluation, treatment, and decisions concerning care.
Assists with provision of appropriate adaptive/assistive and orthotic/prosthetic equipment as needed through the recommendation, fitting, and modification process, consulting with the attending physical therapist as necessary.
Practices in accordance to the Standards of Ethical Conduct of the of the American Physical Therapy Association (see attached).
Completes all documentation according to established policies and procedures, including appropriate daily documentation, weekly summaries, discharge summaries, and Rehab IRF-PAI records. Assures that all appropriate documentation co-signatures are secured from physical therapist(s).
Accurately operates and applies physical therapy modalities and describes indications, contraindications, and precautions of each.
Oversees the work of students, rehabilitation technicians and volunteers as necessary.
Handles PT equipment properly and maintains equipment as necessary.
Completes daily billing procedures accurately and effectively to ensure good fiscal management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Associate Degree in Physical Therapy from a program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS (with minimum requirements indicated as appropriate)
Clinical internship, a portion of which is spent in a rehab setting.
One year employment as a PTA in an adult, geriatric rehab or subacute setting preferred.
Ability to use all materials and modalities specific to physical therapy services.
Good physical and emotional health.
High level of maturity at all times.
Full understanding of body mechanics and safety precautions in order to protect patients, caregivers and other visitors at all times.
Commitment to the interdisciplinary treatment approach to patient care and rehabilitation.
CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES
Registration in the state of Missouri (or registration eligible)
Missouri chauffeur’s license for PTAs with primary rehab coverage within 6 months of hire
BCLS certification within 6 months of hire
