Plant Accountant Resilient Vinyl Flooring Operations Jackson, MS Armstrong Floor Products, a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries, has an opening for a Plant Accountant at our resilient tile manufacturing plant in Jackson, Mississippi. In this role, you will be responsible for a number of finance and accounting assignments and will be expected to fully engage in assisting plant management in meeting financial objectives. We are seeking a skilled, financial professional who has experience in a plant setting, understands manufacturing processes and has the ability to integrate finance and operations. This position reports directly to the Plant Controller. The Jackson, Mississippi plant employs about 105 people in the manufacture of premiere commercial-grade floor tile and has been in operation for over 60 years. Bring your ideas. Reporting to and working with the Plant Controller, key responsibilities will be focused on the following three areas: Month-End Close & Inventory Reconciliation - Assist with month-end closing, journal entries, responsibilities including reconciling accounts, variance analysis to budget and forecast, posting of journal entries and reporting
- Inventory control and reconciliation, including reviewing or auditing the adherence to cycle count procedures, participating in the annual physical inventory and reconciling inventory transactions
- Fixed asset control and reconciliation including conducting physical inventory counts
Budget Preparation, Forecasts, Reporting & Financial Analysis - Assist in developing the annual plant budget, including creating standard costs and updating SAP with new standards & budget period expenses
- Responsible for providing back up support for processing of weekly payroll, reconciling payroll, generating reports, printing checks and distribution including monthly payroll accrual
- Assist in developing monthly plant full year forecasts and analyzing variances to budget
- Support the weekly estimate process through reporting actual weekly performance and providing projections for the month to the plant controller
- Support the plant in generating or quantifying cost savings opportunities and support the plant management team in the implementation of cost reduction initiatives
- Prepare plant reports on production and key performance indicators
- Report plant's operating results and provide analysis to the plant controller
Internal Controls & Compliance - Assist with the review and audit of internal control procedures in order to sustain SOX compliance and manage/minimize financial risk at the facility
- Assist with plant internal and external financial and operational audits and address any audit findings with the plant controller; participate with compliance certifications and reconciliations as required
- Respond quickly and accurately to customer requests, including special projects and other duties or analysis as requested by plant or divisional leadership; research and resolve day-to-day issues related to general ledger accounts
- Train and assist plant personnel on the proper reporting of production activities
- Serve as back-up for the IT support of the plant assisted by the corporate IT group
- Serve as Record Retention Coordinator for plant
Required Qualifications and Skills The ideal candidate will have progressed through manufacturing finance operations, be capable of identifying cost savings opportunities, and have demonstrated success in implementing process improvements and plant optimization. We are looking for a finance professional that enjoys being part of a dynamic manufacturing organization. - Bachelor degree in accounting or finance
- Two or more years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment, including experience in standard costing, cost accounting, inventory control, monthly closing and reporting/analysis
- Proficiency with SAP
- Support the plant controller in implementing financial process enhancements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities; must be a self-starter and take the initiative in completing projects and assignments
- Excellent written and verbal communications with the ability to share knowledge at appropriate levels of the organization
- Customer focused with strong attention to detail and capable of delivering accurate, quality results in a timely, consistent, and professional manner
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact comfortably and respectfully with all levels of plant and corporate personnel. Proven ability to successfully manage and resolve conflict
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
Desired Qualifications and Skills - CMA, CPA or other professional certification preferred but not required
