Plant Accountant

About the Job

Summary:


This position is responsible for the efficient and accurate accounting of plant materials and expenses, weekly and monthly reporting to the corporate office, monthly closing, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. He/she will operate and maintain plant accounting systems. This position will also coordinate the documentation for various trust and escrow accounts and insurance claims/notices, preparing quarterly reports and other general accounting activities.


 


Responsibilities:   


General Accounting


·            Cost Accounting & Variance Analysis: Maintain the cost accounting records and prepare weekly, monthly and annual analysis of performance against standards. Develop and maintain plant production, inventory and unit costs in SAP.


·            Departmental Spending: Provide reporting and analysis of departmental spending.  Primary financial resource for plant departmental managers.


·            Maintain an understanding of all plant departmental systems and the interaction between all plant functions.


·            Monthly Close: Plan, coordinate, and implement monthly closing schedule. Perform journal entries in SAP. Produce various schedules and reports for corporate.


·            Utilize the SAP systems for inputting, retrieving and reporting accounting information. 


·            Work together with corporate accounting and ensure compliance with standard and corporate accounting procedures.


·            Operating Plan: Working with local personnel, develop operating plan, manage retention of support documentation as it pertains to each individual budget, track all actual spending according to budgeted projections. Review budgeted data against actual data and identify and resolve problems and variances.


·            Forecasting: Create and maintain quarterly forecasts for corporate consolidation, compile weekly cash forecasts, maintain the Environmental Legacy Operating Plan detailing the 20 year outlook.


·            Reporting: Prepare a variety of weekly and monthly managerial reports, utilizing basic accounting techniques and standard practices.  Prepare inventory reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis. Complete plant’s monthly flash report.


·            Establish and follow safety, housekeeping, and employee relation policies and procedures.


·            Perform special assignments, projects, and other related duties as assigned.


 


Project Accounting


·            Responsible for review and analysis of repairs and maintenance costs and capital projects.  Manage maintenance and overall expenditure analysis.


·            Monitor capital projects and cost reduction projects.  Analyze project performance against planned returns.


·            Maintain project costing system. Reconcile actual project costs to budgeted project costs; ensure  project management tracking system is accurate at all times to present the current financial picture for each project.


·            Trust and Escrow Management: Process all claims against Velsicol Environmental Fund Trust (every six months); track and audit accounting (by trustee) on Velsicol Environmental Fund Trust; process all draws on Velsicol Environmental Escrow ensuring all movement of funds are absolutely accounted for; maintain all accounting for the Escrow account. Develop processes and procedures to upgrade this manual tracking process to eliminate the potential for error.


·            AIG Quarterly report: Working with the Project Engineers, assemble and publish the quarterly report. Ensure all project spending records are allocated appropriately.


·            Insurance Notices/Claims: Maintain accurate records of notifications to insurance carriers for environmental related claims; notify insurance carriers as required by insurance policies.

Requirements:


·         Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (CPA is always a plus!)


·         4-6 years broad professional Accounting experience required; manufacturing accounting preferred.


·         2-4 years ERP experience (SAP a strong plus!)


·         Familiarity with project accounting a plus


·         Exceptional attention to detail, high level of professionalism and integrity.


·         Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
