Plant Technician- Mechanical (Union); Morgantown Generating Station

Operates, inspects, repairs and troubleshoots all generating plant steam and combustion turbine generating and auxiliary equipment.

 

  1. Performs mechanical maintenance skills to repair, troubleshoot, and assist in overhaul of various plant components, equipment, and machinery
  2. Performs routine operational equipment checks, to include the isolation and restoring of components, and to assist others, in plant operation
  3. Performs administrative functions in support of work unit such as timekeeping, materials support, cost monitoring, and scheduling and quality control/quality assurance.
  4. Uses plant computer systems to monitor work backlog and input work order data
  5. Performs data collection and maintain proper logs
  6. Adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations
  7. Performs emergency response activities as required
  8. Performs general housekeeping functions as necessary
  9. Operates Company vehicles and equipment

  • Must have prior mechanical experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills required
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Achieve a successful score on the Power Plant Maintenance (MASS) and Plant Operator (POSS) aptitude test
  • Ability to work rotating shiftwork, holidays, weekends and overtime
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to interpret and apply instructions, specifications, blueprints and procedures
  • Possess a valid jurisdictional driver's license
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and time management skills
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language
  • Ability to handle multiple task and meets stringent deadlines
  • Ability to perform work both indoors and outdoors, requiring continuous physical activity, sometimes of a strenuous an stressful nature
  • Ability to work in enclosed vessels or confined spaces
  • Ability to use various hand/power driven and hydraulic tools and machinery
  • Ability to use arms, legs, feet, and hands in a fully coordinated manner
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, twist, kneel, crawl, pull/push and lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk and squat for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work on or around energized electrical equipment
  • Ability to work at elevated heights including scaffolding
  • Ability to work alone in remote areas
  • Ability to work in areas with limited lighting
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures ranging from very cold to very hot
  • Possess good hearing and vision
  • Ability to work in areas that may be noisy and dirty
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other job related personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to meet (on an annual basis) appropriate physical evaluations identified by Mirant as prerequisites to performing certain task and training activities

Preferred:

  • One to three years related experience in fossil fuel power plants, refineries or related field
  • Associates Degree in a related science or equivalent technical degree and one to three years of job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
