Position Overview:
The successful candidate will utilize process engineering skills and six sigma tools to make data-driven decisions driving process excellence in manufacturing operations across all product lines, specifically in the sand plant and fiber optic tubing processes.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
· Drive stable operations and SPC in the sand plant to improve sand quality and consistency.
· Develop/optimize processes to improve fiber optic deposition tube quality.
· Develop gages for material characterization and defect detection.
· Develop a prioritized project list based onfinancials, resource requirements & ease of implementation.
· Systematically execute cost and quality projects with significant business impact.
· Document improvements in process of record.
· Translate best practices to other manufacturing sites globally.
· Audit processes to identify improvement areas including equipment, process, raw material quality and operating instructions with the goal of improving yield/quality.
Required Education and Professional Qualifications:
· BS/MS in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science
Required Work Experience:
· 5-10 years experience as a process engineer or a black belt in a manufacturing environment of a materials industry focused on driving cost out, quality or capacity programs.
· Demonstrated data analysis and statistics skills.
· Experience in driving stable operations/SPC to reduce process variation.
· Demonstrated program and project management skills including budgets and schedule.
· Experience in specification, installation/startup of new equipment.
· Working knowledge of analytical and material characterization techniques.
· Think creatively and communicate ideas effectively across technology and manufacturing and other functions.
· Ability to translate best practices across all manufacturing sites.
· Hands-on approach to project work; willingness to execute project goals in technology piloting and manufacturing/operations environments.
· Willingness to be a team player & lead teams successfully.
· Ability to travel; mainly to other sites (20%)
Desired Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:
· Certified Six Sigma Black Belt
· Solid modeling and 2-dimensional printmaking skills.
· Experience with high temperature furnaces, handling and processing of high purity materials.
· Background in glass or ceramics, with working knowledge of batch and continuous processing, and handling of high purity materials.
