CBI Polymers, LLC a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cellular Bioengineering, Inc. located in Honolulu, Hawaii is currently seeking a Polymer Chemist.  This position is available immediately.  The successful candidate will provide support to the Chief Scientist, as well as lead projects in the discovery, development and production of new and innovative polymer technologies including:

 

  1. Industrial coatings
  2. Industrial cleaners
  3. Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) decontamination
  4. Novel projects

 

Responsibilities will include a broad spectrum of Research and Development objectives requiring proficiency in the synthesis, formulation, testing, and characterization of novel polymers and coatings formulations.  The Polymer Chemist will be required to perform a variety of analytical techniques, manage many functional laboratory responsibilities (e.g. ordering and logging in equipment and chemicals, keeping MSDS records, processing sample requests, etc.), and support the scale-up and manufacturing of a variety of novel technologies.

 

The successful candidate will be proficient in performing hands-on experiments, build/construct a variety of laboratory infrastructure, and possess the following skills: self-motivated, goal oriented, work well in a diverse and challenging environment, and possess excellent interpersonal and team skills. Proficiency in mechanical testing of polymers a experimental design (DoE) is a plus.

 

Experience/Education

  • Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry: M.S., Ph.D. or B.S with 3+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience and mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience in organic or polymer synthesis.
  • Experience with industrial coatings is a plus.
  • Experience in the decontamination, neutralization or sterilization of CBRN agents or simulants is a plus. 
  • Ability to carry out experiments with minimum supervision, have outstanding organizational skills and have the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Candidate should be self-driven to acquire new knowledge, skills and techniques, have the ability to accurately record observations of experiments, and have excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills.
  • Perform a variety of analytical and testing techniques.
