Post-Doc Fellow
Post-doctoral position at Emory University, Atlanta, GA - USA
Job Description
A post-doctoral fellow position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Nicholas Boulis, MD at the Emory University in Atlanta, GA for a motivated Molecular Biologist in the area of Gene Therapy for Neurological Disorders.
The Boulis laboratory has concentrated much of its effort on motor-neuron specific gene delivery and expression in an attempt to develop gene therapy as a strategy for treatment of Motor Neuron Diseases. The laboratory utilizes techniques for remote (peripheral nerve injection) and direct viral gene delivery of vectors to the nervous system. Within the Boulis laboratory, a variety of viral vectors encoding genes for neural growth factors and anti-apoptotic intracellular proteins are currently being tested in both cell cultures, as well in animal models for Motor Neuron Diseases.
Research in the Boulis laboratory tests basic principles while providing tools for clinical translation. Dr. Boulis' expertise in neurosurgery, as well as cellular and molecular neuroscience, creates a unique resource for the development and clinical translation of these concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in molecular biology techniques including: DNA cloning, in vitro assays, PCR, ELISA.
- Experience in cell culture and willingness to perform in vitro experiments
- Strong background in molecular biology and gene therapy, particularly in AAV and lentiviral vector development
- Ability to write, present and analyze data
- Ability to work and think independently
