hospitals. Mount Sinai is internationally acclaimed for excellence in clinical care, education, and scientific research in nearly every aspect of medicine. Mount Sinai's 1,171-bed tertiary-care teaching hospital with a medical staff of nearly 1,800 provides physicians who deliver the most advanced and compassionate inpatient and outpatient care. Located at 98th Street and Madison Avenue. The Mount Sinai Hospital serves Manhattan's Upper East Side of Harlem. Mount Sinai's state-of-the-art facilities include the unique Guggenheim Pavillion, the first hospital designed by internationally renowned architect I.M. Pei. Here, the most advanced scientific tools for diagnosis and treatment join an uplifting ambiance that uses natural light and space to keep patients' spirits bright and promote healing. Postdoctoral Fellow
Job Description:
Postdoctoral Positions to study the HIV virological synapse. Postdoctoral positions are available immediately to investigate the molecular mechanisms of HIV dissemination through virological synapses. We are employing molecular virology, small animal models of infection and confocal imaging to understand how HIV spreads from T cell to T cell. Experts in virology, cell biology, intravital imaging, cellular immunology are encouraged to apply. Our recent studies reveal that virological synapses promote novel pathways of viral internalization that greatly promote the spread of HIV (Hubner et al, Science 323:1743 2009). Projects will examine the mechanisms of infection following virological synapse formation and exploit humanized murine models to understand the role of the virological synapse in dissemination in vivo. The research focuses on an emerging interface between virology and cell biology and tests new paradigms for understanding HIV dissemination. The appointment will be at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and in the Immunology Institute. Experience in virology, confocal imaging, image analysis, molecular biology, mammalian cell biology, and protein chemistry is preferred. Requirements for this post include a strong record of publication and a PhD and/or MD. Send a C.V. and contact information for three references to Benjamin K.
