Job Description: Siemens Corporate Research, a division of Siemens Corporation, has an opening for a Power Electronics Specialist in Princeton, NJ.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will develop power conversion and control prototype concepts in numerous component and system opportunities for electrical utility, industrial, commercial, residential, vehicular, and health care applications as technical team member.
The candidate will be expected to identify, analyze, and validate technology applications in the areas of power conversion, motor drives, energy storage, utility interface and alternative power generation/distribution systems; participate in technology development projects and collaborate with teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (national laboratories and universities); promote technologies leading to new product development in hybrid vehicles, renewable and distributed energy management, and power quality and stay on the leading edge of power semiconductor devices, power topologies, control system technologies, and motor technologies.
Knowledge
This position requires broad system and control understanding of electrical power systems (conventional & alternative electrical power generation, power conversion, power distribution, motor loads).
Success in this position will require the individual to be skilled at system integration of electrical power, protection, conversion and control technologies.
Has a proven track record in taking technologies from concepts to demonstrating product applications; general knowledge in control of utility interface converters, and power quality products and motor drives and a proven ability to investigate and develop new technologies for next generation products in emerging markets.
Requirements
MS. Electrical Engineering or related field and at least 5 years of related experience required. PhD preferred.
Technical expertise required in: - Converter and plant control strategies - AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC and AC-AC Power Converters (low/medium voltage, 10 - 500 kW) - Converter design and control for synchronous and asynchronous motors
Technical expertise preferred in: - Algorithm implementation and verification in embedded platforms - Utility interface of power electronics - Interfacing converters with alternate energy sources and advanced storage
Ability to identify disruptive technologies and opportunities to expand Company's businesses strongly desired. Soft Skills: Matlab/Simulink simulation proficiency DSP and/or C proficiency Protel or OrCad proficiency Digital Oscilloscope or analyzer handling capability Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficient in MS Office software applications Responsible, mature and can work independently on assigned tasks Must be organized and able to multi-task Prior office/internship experience is a plus, but not required
