Primary Care Information Project Medical Billing Specialist

About the Job

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), Primary Care Information Project (PCIP) is devoted to improving population health in underserved neighborhoods through health information technology.  The Primary Care Information Project (PCIP) is the largest project of its kind nationwide, focusing on extending prevention-oriented electronic health records (EHRs) to primary care providers in NYC.  Our mission is to transform the quality of health care services in NYC, especially in medically underserved communities, by helping providers to use an electronic health care delivery system to improve the quality of care.    To find out more about this cutting edge initiative, visit www.nyc.gov/pcip.

 

In collaboration with The Fund for Public Health in New York (FPHNY), a not for profit corporation serving as program partner with DOHMH to implement and advance public health initiatives, PCIP is seeking an Medical Billing Specialist  who will provide medical billing expertise to small physician practices who have adopted the EHR program.  Major responsibilities include:

  • Training practice staff on the billing capabilities of the EHR system via a variety of mechanisms - including face-to-face, conference calls, and presentations/training to larger groups.
  • Working with the Director of Clinical  Quality and the Small Practice team to enhance the experience of users of EHRs.  
  • Help optimize how small physician practices can receive maximum reimbursements for services provided. 
  • Proactively evaluate lessons learned in the field to continuously assess the effectiveness of the approach and content utilized to train small practices. 
  • Collaborate with the Small Practice team to identify needs and design solutions to address those needs.

Qualifications:

Previous teaching or coaching experience is desirable.   Required skills include

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal skills
  • Heavy experience with Medicaid billing
  • Minimum of 5 years advanced billing and coding experience
  • Electronic billing systems, electronic medical records, and/or a variety of practice management systems (small practice as well as large).
  • Solid knowledge and experience with all or most of the following:  CPT-II, CPT-4, G-Codes, ICD-9, Medical insurance, Medical Terminology, Disease Processes, and Medical Administrative Procedures.  Familiarity with PQRI a plus.  
  • Ability to travel within the 5 boroughs.
