Principal Engineer (Chief Technologist) Advanced Systems

About the Job

AAI Corporation, an operating unit of Textron Systems, is looking for a Chief Technologist for our Advanced Systems business unit, reporting directly to the Director of Advanced Systems. Responsible for searching for, finding, evaluating, and monitoring new technology relevant to AAI core capabilities and applications. Examples of such applications include: aerodynamics, aero structures, hydraulics, avionics, weapon systems, ordnance, data links, antennas, EO/IR sensors, miniature electronics, batteries, propulsion, controls, high resolution displays, man-unman-machine interfaces, signal processing, fault tolerant software, etc. Responsible for assessing new technologies for maturity through demonstrations, studies and experiments. Must coordinate closely with business development and the various AAI engineering groups to determine unfulfilled technology needs and to inform them of promising technologies found. Coordinate with various university partners to find good matches between business technology needs and university research. Liaison with any resulting university research projects. Establish and maintain technology roadmap to support AAI business strategic plans. Work closely with Internal Research and Development projects to ensure that the best available technology is incorporated in these activities. Responsible for preparing and presenting briefings to management and customers explaining the most promising technologies in support of obtaining funding for further development of the technology or applications. Support business development efforts to penetrate DARPA and other Govt Lab funding sources with advanced technology explorations.

Required Skills
Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new technology over a wide range of disciplines. Demonstrated creativity in engineering, research or other technical pursuits. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Additional degrees in other disciplines. Familiarity with the research community is a plus and good research skills are important.

Required Experience
Masters Degree in Engineering, Physics or related technical discipline required. Minimum 10 years experience in engineering, research or technical activity. Experience preparing Power Point presentations. Familiarity with DARPA and Government Labs is a plus.

Note: All candidates must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
