Job Responsibilities:

The Principal Network Engineering position will be responsible for infrastructure and routing design, network planning and strategy, performance engineering and optimization of the Comcast National Data Centers and APOPs. The Comcast Data Centers combine the following services - data, voice, and video onto a single converged infrastructure. The Principal Network Engineer will also provide expertise in real time analysis and diagnosis of network problems, configuration and operation of datacenter network devices.

Major Duties:

Architect network solutions to meet the needs of various Comcast lines of business.

Work with existing team to develop and enhance the network architecture supporting the deployment of voice, video and data.

Work with cross functional teams, following design, deployment and operational processes.

Assist in the development and planning for the roll-out of future hardware and software versions of datacenter network devices.

Support and training for Operations staff.

Work with standards bodies and Internet organizations as needed.

Evaluate various architectural solutions and implementations.

Provide last tier On-Call support, focused on isolating and resolving network outages.

Build relationships with assigned markets through regular communication and site visits.

Test and deploy DSCP across the datacenter network in support of network security and QOS for datacenter traffic.

Work independently with little supervision while managing assigned projects and ensuring timely delivery of services.

Communicate applicable design guidelines and provide guidance to markets to ensure compliance.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

Minimum 6 years of Internet and IP network experience in a national environment.

Minimum of 5 years in an IP architectural role.

Expertise in BGP and OSPF is required.

Experience with broadband cable networks is preferred.

Knowledge of voice and video over IP is preferred.

Minimum 3 years developing technical requirements.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Specific knowledge of Cisco routers, especially the 7600, CRS-1, 6500, 3500, 2900 series is preferred. Broad knowledge of Cisco uBR, Arris C4 and Motorola BSR CMTS's would be a plus.

Broad knowledge of VoIP technology and standards (e.g. SIP, COPS, SCTP, MGCP) a plus.

Knowledge of PSTN service and implementation (e.g. CALEA, SS7, TCAP) a plus.

Experience implementing DSCP based ACL on Cisco platform a plus.

Experience working on new technology trials is a plus.

Knowledge of DOCSIS, PacketCable, and SIP standards are a plus.

Experience in the implementation of multicasting a plus.

Expertise in scripting languages a plus.

Solid written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries is required.

Must be a flexible, team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

Creative thinking and critical analysis are essential.

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience and self-study.

Master's degree a plus.

Cisco, Juniper, and/or other related networking certifications preferred.
