Principal Hardware Engineer

GENERAL SUMMARY
Working under minimal direction and exercising considerable latitude, provides technical expertise in developing solutions to complex hardware engineering problems, which require frequent use of ingenuity and creativity. Provides work leadership to others, and works with senior management team to define product strategies and overall program schedule. Assignments may include new products as well as upgrades and enhancements, or fixes to existing products.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Exercises considerable latitude, without appreciable direction, in determining technical objectives, and meeting program deliverables.
Identifies and champions design changes/suggestions/process that will improve quality, reliability, functionality and improve time-to-market design cycle. May interface with supplier community and make recommendations on supply base.
May be accountable for overall product and/or serve as a customer advocate, may represent organization as principal customer contact. May perform competitive assessments and analysis as necessary.
Significant contributor to organizational goals and objectives.
May be expected to set standards and achieve cost targets for product cost through proper design choices, component selection and/or supplier selection.
Collaborates across all engineering disciplines (hardware, software) to ensure product requirements are being implemented to meet program goals. May assume lead role on a cross-functional collaborative efforts.
Sphere of influence likely to extend outside of their own functional organization.
SKILLS
5-10 years of relevant experience with hardware test and validation
Knowledge of server hardware required, experience with Dell, HP or Intel preferred
Kowledge of Linux and command line functions
Project management skills.
Understanding of business environment.
Ability to lead, motivate and direct a workgroup.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Presentation skills.
Ability to influence others to achieve results.
