Principal Program Manager, External Validation Programs*

Department Overview
The Symantec Management Platform (SMP) is the core of Symantec's security strategy for the Enterprise. Its open architecture supports rapid delivery of integrated solutions in order to react to customers' changing needs. Some key Enterprise products (including Symantec Endpoint Protection, Backup Exec System Recovery, Veritas Configuration Manager, and Data Loss Prevention) are already integrated with the SMP. Now SMP forms the basis for the Protection Center, Symantec's new security management brand that will offer better protection and reduce the cost of security management by providing a unified web console, integrations and control across products, and actionable cross-product reporting.
Responsibilities
• Own delivery of one or more typically high risk, large scope and/or complicated projects (software development or external validation programs) • Create and own project master schedule optimizing for project specific priorities • Lead the team through the product lifecycle working with peer functional managers (Product Management, Development, and QA) to continuously manage trade-offs between quality, schedule, scope, and resources • Uncover, manage and resolve project interdependencies and proactively manage risk • Anticipate and solves problems related to project issues • Central communicator (owns team PR") and facilitator for project team • Provide guidance to less senior PGMs and technical staff
Qualifications
• 6+ years experience in commercial software project management, additional management experience preferred • Thorough understanding of project/product life cycle and experience leading at least 1 full release cycle of commercial software product • Strong project estimation, organization, scheduling and planning skills • Working knowledge of a variety of project management tools • Able to solve complex problems where in-depth analysis and evaluation of various factors is required, deal with high degree of ambiguity, and maintain composure in stressful confrontational situations • Ability to motivate and influence internal and external project team members to establish team cohesion • Bachelor's degree (preferably BSCS or similar); PMI, CSM or similar certifications or experience preferred
