Position Profile: This Principal Quality Engineering position provides quality engineering management of various programs. Works with Program Management, Customer and Suppliers/Subcontractors to ensure that L-3 CS-W Business Management System and contractually defined quality requirements are understood, properly documented, flowed down, and implemented in support of the build of high performance data links for L-3 Communications - a leader and prime defense contractor in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and secure communications.

Competencies: The Principal Quality Engineer will manage the program(s) contractual and company internal quality requirements.

  • Review of customer contract documents, i.e. statements of work, specifications, purchase orders and other contractual documents to determine the quality requirements of the program.
  • Provide input and review of contractual documents, i.e. internal specifications, statements of work, and purchase orders to ensure proper flow-down of quality requirements internally as well as to suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Generation of Quality Program Plans identifying contractual and quality requirements.
  • Capable of providing direction and interpretation of customer guidelines and/or customer imposed quality standards and specifications.
  • Requires knowledge of government and industry specs, standards, and regulations and their applicability to complex systems.
  • Participate in coordination of quality test witness function for qualification testing activity.
  • Efficiently explain and confirm customer and contractual quality requirements under pressure and adverse conditions.
  • Participate as needed in Quality support for major subcontractors to confirm their compliance to quality requirements.
  • Ability to interface with internal Supplier Quality group to ensure proper compliance for quality products purchased.
  • Reasonable judgment and decision-making ability in reviewing company and supplier performance to requirements.
  • Act as a Material Review Board member where non-conformances are involved.
  • Initiate corrective/preventive action, investigation, and follow-up of adverse quality findings.
  • Expertise in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
  • Possesses an understanding of mechanical/ electrical engineering and systems integration.
  • Ability to review and ensure proper processes are in place to deliver quality products and continually improve.
  • Help as needed in implementing/strengthening the Quality Management System.
  • Proficiency in MS office and MS project software applications.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively with the highest levels of company management and customers, regarding quality issues and concerns.
  • This person will ensure that all internal and external interfaces are based upon the highest level of ethics and integrity.


Education/Experience: This position requires a related Bachelors degree (BSEE, BSME) or it’s equivalent and eight plus (8+) years with progressive experience in ISO 9001:2000 and AS 9100 Quality Systems. Experience /working knowledge of the following standards and specifications would be considered a positive factor: IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001 (solder); AS9102 (FAI); ANSI Y 14.5 (GD&T); DO-160 / MIL-STD-810 (Environmental/Qual Testing).

  • Due to the nature of our work this position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
