About the Job

What you will do
The Principal Software Engineer will perform key technical functions within the Software Team through architecting, designing, and developing software for the suite of Tyco Retail Solutions Traffic products spanning large functional areas and multiple development teams. This individual will provide technical leadership to the functional area teams as well as provide solutions to the overall architecture of the application suite. This individual will demonstrate a thorough understanding of software methodologies and latest development technologies and will integrate best practices and expertise into the functional areas.


Building an IoT solution in big data, the architecture is built around technology principles of being highly-available, high-performing, scalable, and highly secure. Data is transferred in real-time between the IoT devices and back-end system through data streams, message buses, and REST APIs.


 




How you will do it



  1. Contribute to the overall architecture of the Tyco Retail Solutions Traffic suite of applications. Work across teams to provide software architecture solutions.


  2. Design and make decisions regarding system architecture spanning multiple functional areas.


  3. Provide technical leadership and direction for team members.


  4. Investigate and apply emerging technologies and new design approaches.


  5. Develop and implement sound software development practices.


  6. Assist other engineers through instruction and leadership.


  7. Set coding standards and procedures.


  8. Provide creative solutions to complex problems.


  9. Participate in functional, technical, and code reviews.


  10. Provide 24x7 support when required.


  11. Work in an Agile environment.


  12. Other, as assigned

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:  BS in Computer Science or related field.


 


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:  Must be knowledgeable in:

  • HTML





  • Spring





  • Unix (Solaris, Linux, Etc.)





  • XML



 




  • Agile



 



 



 



DESIRED KNOWLEDGE:  Would like to be knowledgeable in:

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  Minimum of 10 years application development experience.
