Principal Systems Administrator

About the Job

The Principal Systems Administrator will provide Global Storage Area network design, implementation, and maintenance for Fiber Channel, iSCSI and NAS Storage systems. Provide Storage Support for a large-scale storage area environment using Tivoli Storage Management; including policy management, storage pool configuration and maintenance, LTO drive and tape management, occupancy management, TSM Database maintenance, and system/client documentation.


Responsibilities:



  • Senior most technical lead in Storage area of Windows, UNIX, Linux systems.

  • Responsible for planning, coordination of resources, and execution of storage architecture

  • Develop design requirements into storage and data protection tasks and documentation. Must be able to analyze requirements for impact on storage infrastructure. Must be able to architect & Design storage solutions

  • Proactively seek opportunities to automate and streamline complex tasks and procedures.

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, direction, and mentorship to junior team members

  • Troubleshoot storage and backup production support issues and provide post-trouble continuous improvement guidance (post-mortems, revised best-practices, and updated procedures/training/general learning in formal method).

  • TSM client/server maintenance including Windows, Unix,, SQL, Exchange, and Oracle/SAP clients including TDP clients, LAN-free, Server-free, NDMP; and backup scheduling

  • Maintain TSM day-to-day (Administrative) documentation; perform application/client upgrades as required.

  • Performance tuning on the server and clients to optimize TSM Capabilities.

  • Monitor Storage environments, resolve performance issues,

  • Work with App Developers and DBA’s for storage optimization.

  • Provide Usage, Performance, Availability and capacity planning data.

  • Maintain technical background and hands-on experience to properly research, specify and execute infrastructure changes and upgrades necessitated by the deployment of new projects and/or platforms within the enterprise.

  • Follow the IT Project methodology to deliver quality solutions to the business.

  • Oversee internal processes and lead process improvement initiatives.

  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures and other necessary documentation.

  • Communicate plans, status, and issues to higher levels of management.

  • Understand, document, and communicate information needs for IDEXX business divisions/functions.

  • Assist with the development of business strategies, business plans and budgets.

  • Work with team to ensure acceptable performance of SAP, UNIX and Linux infrastructure including defining appropriate Service Level Agreements and measuring tools.

  • Provide a high level of customer service, partner with end-users in the resolution of issues or in the deployment of enhancements.

  • Demonstrate initiative in resolving problems, balancing conflicting requirements in partnership with others.

  • Provide and participate in internal and external training (e.g. technical, business, etc).

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical experience

Experience:



  • 8-10 years of relevant IT business experience
  • 5-7 years of experience in IT Operations environment
