Job Description:
Systems engineer with experience in Air Command & Control (C2) Systems. Specific experience and knowledge of Air Forces operations and doctrine is required. Experience with tactical air defense systems, related air mission planning systems and subsequent execution of plans - current operations procedures. Participate and lead technical interchange meetings and operational user groups. The Air C2 system is highly dependent on data links. Experience is required with Tactical Data Links such as Link 11, Link 16, JRE, TADIL J, VMF, and Link 22. Work involves the creation/analysis of a Human Machine Interface (HMI), both textual and graphical. System engineering skills are required across a spectrum of disciplines: Operational Concept Documents (OCDs), Software Requirement Specification (SRS), Interface Requirement Specification (IRS), Operator Manuals and Test Procedures. The successful candidate will be able to communicate well with software and system engineering disciplines in evaluating potential system issues.
-Maintain an appreciation for current C2 tactics, techniques, and procedures and ensure our products support those tenets.
-Apply operational experiences to improve our software/hardware designs.
-Ensure we are designing and developing capability that has operational utility.
-Build test plans, procedures to ensure operational utility of newly developed software.
-Assess hardware configurations for suitability in operational environments.
-Understand concepts of operations and translate into technical requirements.
-Create/analyze human machine interface for operational usability.
-Ensure operating manuals are written to be understood by operators.
-Lead technical interchange meetings and operational user groups.
-Evaluate potential system issues from an operational perspective and advise software/systems engineering disciplines.
-Bring an understanding of C2 missions, organizations, and processes to grow our C2 capabilities.
Required Skills:
-Operationally certified in a C2 system within the last 3 years.
-5-15 years uniformed service with US Air Force.
-Knowledge of Air Command and Control (operational and tactical) doctrine and systems.
-Capable of taking a system specification and developing detailed software requirements.
-Familiar with HMI interaction (definition of screen layouts, both textual and graphical).
-Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and defining a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for a situation display utilized in operational planning and tactical actions.
-Strong personal communications skills, both in spoken presentation and technical writing.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with customer representatives.
-Literate in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).
Desired Skills:
-Graduate of on or more of the following military courses or equivalent: Undergraduate Air Battle Manager training, Basic Aerospace Control and Warning Systems Course, USAF Weapons School, Air Weapons Officer/Weapons Director Initial Qualification Training Course .
-Understanding of network centric systems, wargame modeling and simulation.
-Understanding of future force requirements desired.
-Hands on experience with tactical C2, AOC, or operational planning systems
-Commercial system engineering experience (5+ years) with US Air Force or Joint Forces
Required Education(including Major):
BS Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or related field.
