Primary Objective:
Database technology guru to work in the Product Strategy Group to help identify the best options for extending Netezzas database product set.

Accountability/Scope (range of responsibilities):
Individual will report to a VP of Engineering or Director of Engineering. Will work with engineering leaders, marketing and external technology sources and development groups to formulate and refine product goals and technology choices. Will do research prototypes and analysis to better understand alternatives. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of contributors and managers within technical engineering ranks. Familiar with broad range of product implementations, software, middleware, and operating systems.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
Help set directions for and lead technology investigations.
Select and evaluate design investigations and prototypes; communicate results.
Do startup project work; help move investigation results into development projects.


Skills Required:
Strong background in and curiosity about database technology, especially internals relevant to analytic databases
Fascination with figuring out how technology changes can drive product innovations
Reasonable experience coding in C++ or similar and a thorough grounding in structured design principals


Desired Job Experience:
Experience doing advanced development and analysis and communicating results across a broad product organization
Background doing innovative work on elements such as storage subsystem, optimizers, execution engine designs and the like
8 or more years experience in software engineering.


Desired Education:
Masters Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
