Private Equity Fund of Funds/Infrastructure Researcher - Alternatives (Beta) Boutique - Senior Assoc
The Manager Researcher/Consultant in Mercer's Alternatives Boutique is designed for someone who can evaluates investment managers, work well with clients and contribute to the development of our intellectual capital. To fulfill this role in our Chicago office, the Manager Researcher/Consultant will:
- Act as the expert and lead researcher in North America on alternative asset classes such as private equity fund-of-funds and direct private equity; additional research areas may include energy, infrastructure and other unlisted funds
- Prioritize research schedules, meet with investment managers, create research notes for internal and external clients and participate in the rating of investment managers. Act as the main point of contact for investment managers in designated assets classes, responsible for maintaining working relationship and managing the information flow between Mercer and the managers;
- Contributes to Mercer's future strategy and business planning, including the development of new services;
- Able to explain dynamics of product area(s) to clients, consultants, and third parties;
- Monitor manager search activity and assist with searches in alternative asset classes and act as primary point of contact for field consultants and clients;
- Produce periodic white papers providing information on market opportunities for strategies researched;
- Assist with client assignments as needed;
- Assist with regular newsletters in designated asset classes;
- Maintain marketplace visibility through public speaking engagements, participating in professional societies and publication or articles in appropriate trade journals.
- Peer review reports, adding client specific information and ensuring client suitability.
- Direct the work of team members and coach/mentor others.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics or other business-related areas with strong quantitative and analytical course content. MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years job-related experience.
- Background in manager evaluation, deal origination, asset management and due diligence, or corporate finance
- Good knowledge of pensions industry, markets, investment managers and relevant legislation.
- Good understanding of specialist tools/packages used within the practice.
- Specialized knowledge of all investment products and services.
- Ability to consult on all products within the investment market and advise clients of appropriate choices for their situation.
- CFA charterholder preferred.
