Process Development Engineer
Research & Development Department
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Leads key projects and develops networks, teams and linkages to rapidly implement new product processes and process changes that comply with environmental regulations, reduce process and formulation costs, and improve existing plant processes at all plant sites.
Responsibilities of the position:
- Take leadership role in new product development activities with all marketing, plant, engineering and R&D groups to assure successful and rapid progress of new product startups.
- Conduct vendor evaluations to determine process capacity and capability
- Supporting the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations
- Designing, installing and commissioning new production processes, monitoring development (ie, modifications and upgrades) and troubleshooting existing processes
- Applying the principles of mass, momentum and heat transfer to process and equipment design
- Conducting process development experiments to scale in a laboratory
- Preparing reports, flow diagrams and charts
- Assessing the availability of raw materials and the safety and environmental impact of the plant
- Establishing preliminary project and product cost estimates
- Managing the cost and time constraints of projects
- Monitoring and improving the efficiency, output and safety of a process
- Ensuring the process works at the optimum level, to the right rate and quality of output, in order to meet supply needs
- Making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved
- Assuming responsibility for environmental monitoring and ongoing performance of processes
- Liaising with other process engineers within Crayola and with outside vendors
- Working closely with other specialists, including: scientists responsible for the quality control of raw materials, intermediates and finished products; engineers responsible for plant maintenance; commercial colleagues on product specifications and production schedules; and the operating crew
- Responsible for maintaining commitment to Crayola, LLC Affirmative Action goals within functional area to include, but not be limited to, recruiting, employee treatment and termination practices.
- Complies with federal and state Hazardous Waste regulations including proper handling, storing, labeling, and familiarity with Crayola?s Emergency Action Procedure in the event of a spill or leak.
Basic Requirements of the position:
- B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering
- Five plus years experience with manufacturing processes. Background in manufacturing systems and project management.
- Skilled in MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel
Additional Requirements of the position:
- Demonstrated leadership skills and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to manage and lead multiple concurrent projects
