Process/Development Engineer

Plans, directs, or coordinates the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality and quantity specifications. Continuously improves the production process, utilizing a hands-on approach. 
•Facilitates production, quality of production, processing, and distribution of materials throughout the department. Assists machine operators and technicians to achieve maximum productivity and output. 
•Suggests standards of performance for both quality and production. Measures progress. Analyzes progress and takes corrective action. Implements Lean Six Sigma processes wherever possible. 
•Leads the final stages of new product development by testing, troubleshooting, researching, and implementing potential improvements, effectively maximizing potential from material suppliers.
•Reviews technical issues and confers with staff to resolve production problems involving equipment, procedures, training, processes, etc.
•Conducts equipment and process testing of novel technologies. Applies appropriate experimental design, analyses, and statistical methods to identify and solve problems.
•Acts as backup resource in absence of Production Manager.
•Ensures compliance with all company safety rules and procedures.
•Demonstrates ability to train others effectively. Develops specficiations, checklists, and standard work processes.
•Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: 
•BS degree in chemical engineering preferred.,
•Background in manufacturing required. 
•3-5 years experience in an automated manufacturing environment; impregnation/coating experience preferred. Paper manufacturing experience and/or experience in resin impregnation processes preferred.
•Lean and Six Sigma tools experience desirable.
•Must be technology and automation minded, with a basic understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, basic electricity, gearboxes, and tools.
•Must have a strong floor presence; lead by influence; possess customer service skills; display strong analytical skills and intellectual horsepower.
•Capable of determining detailed processes required to manufacture a product.
•Must have demonstrated success in cost optimization between product performance and material cost.
•Must be skilled at creating and documenting procedures.
•Must be energetic and action oriented, with a strong work ethic.
•Excellent computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products. 
•Strong math skills, including the knowledge of arithmetic, basic algebra, geometry, and statistics, and their applications.
•Excellent organizational and time management skills.   
•Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, and the ability to motivate, develop, and direct subordinates.
•Possess an exceptional attention to detail.
•Good written and oral communication skills. 
•Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
•Ability to work indpendently for long periods with minimal instruction from supervisor. 
•Knowledgeable of safe handling and disposal requirements for all raw materials used and intermediates and finished goods produced in the department, as well as knowledge of handling procedures in case of emergency situations. 
•Knowledge of production processes, quality control concepts, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing of goods.
