About the Job


SUMMARY:  Responsible to provide scientific technical knowledge of the processes used to produce Company products. Provides understanding of the chemistry of the products and the mechanisms at work in the processes that are used to produce the Company products.  Serves as a support person to R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production.  Provides engineering efforts towards new product scale-up and development, and continuously strives at improving safety, quality and delivery performance of a particular process area.  Also provides technical assistance to internal customers, troubleshoots in process problems as they arise, and makes formulation or process adjustments as necessary to produce quality products in a timely manner.


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


·         Analyze and improve all existing and new equipment and processes as needed.


·         Troubleshoot in-process problems and make recommendations to increase productivity.  Resolve ongoing process and tooling related problems proactively.


·         Scale-up new R&D products to Production scale.


      Create documentation to support existing processes and equipment in accordance with Quality Systems.


      Design and implement processes and equipment, and create documentation and procedures for all new products during scale-up.


·         Solve manufacturing problems related to equipment, processes, or product design.


·         Review production processes and recommends changes for improvement; goals should include current technologies which lead to: creating a safer workplace, producing products with higher quality, quicker delivery of products and producing products at a lower cost.


·         Assist maintenance in troubleshooting and repair of equipment.


·         Provide technical expertise in the area of process engineering.


·         Develop processes, equipment, and fixtures to aid in the manufacture of products.


·         Develop, revise, and upgrade routers, standard operating procedures (SOP), and bill of materials.


·         Train and instruct associates in performance of their assigned duties using operations work instructions.


·         Develop and implement process capability and control plans, FMEAs, and DOEs around new products.


·         Work with R&D in regards to process capabilities to prepare plant layouts for maximum utilization of floor space and resources.


 


REQUIREMENTS:


·         Knowledge of silicone or elastomer / polymer chemistry.


·         Experience working with powdered chemicals and / or surface treatments.


·         Personal computer skills such as MICROSOFT OFFICE and relational database.


·         Excellent communication and report writing skills.


·         Ability to work well in a Team environment.


·         Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.


·         Works with management to establish project Milestones and work through Stage Gate process, and then executes project plan with little supervision.


·         Ability to work toward defined objectives with little direct supervision.


·         Demonstrated understanding of new product development processes and work flow.


·         Detailed knowledge of at least one SBU product line, with general knowledge of related or other product lines.


·         Works well in a Team environment and guides the team as the “expert” in a particular field.


·         Demonstrated experience in participating on multi-disciplinary product development teams.


·         Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) or Design for Six Sigma.


 


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


·         Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with polymer or chemistry background.


·         5-8 years of experience
