POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for the planning, development and execution of all assigned DC engineering and cost reduction projects. The Process Improvement Engineer Manager has the task of looking for every opportunity to simplify all DC processes, take inefficiencies and related costs out of current processes by applying engineering design support and Lean methodology to identify improvement opportunities. Additional responsibilities include partnering with DC Operations and Training to provide cross functional project support. As process change ideas are implemented, the Engineer will also be responsible for creating process documentation and control plans with DC Operations and Training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deploy Lean / 5SA change within and across facilities.
  • Using Lean methodology creates process improvement projects for the DC. Specific goals to be determined annually.
  • Responsible for managing process improvement projects through to completion.
  • Responsible for providing engineering & maintenance support and direction to the DC.
  • Responsible for preparation, maintenance and updating of all new engineering documentation relating to new processes implemented. Ensure Training has current best methods training in place.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Four-year degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent field, MBA preferred.
  • Six or more years related experience; discount retail distribution operations preferred.
  • Ability to manage a team of Industrial Engineers.
  • Lean experience in a distribution or manufacturing environment, Black Belt level preferred.
  • Strong operations knowledge of distribution or manufacturing processes preferred.
  • The ability to effectively communicate and interact at many organizational levels including non-exempt associates, operations supervisors, and high-level management.
  • Working knowledge of time study, work measurement methods, engineering economy, material handling design and warehouse management systems.
  • The ability to think in terms of process flow and identification of component operations and interrelationships.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Experience in using PCs in a professional setting - developing and using standard applications such as spreadsheets, databases, and word processors as typical tools to execute. Ability to draft in Auto Cad.
  • Travel up to 25-50% of the time required.
