You will be responsible for developing Energy sourcing strategies, leading teams, negotiating Procurement agreements, participating on Lean/Six Sigma projects and, managing Energy supplier relationships across Aleris’ North American operating locations.  You will be expected to implement collaborative processes between Corporate Procurement, the Business Unit leadership, Aleris Risk Management, Aleris Legal and the management teams at Aleris’ North American plants. The objective for this position is optimization of total value for the Aleris Energy spend (Natural Gas and Electricity).

 

Core Accountabilities:

§         Provide Energy category expertise and sourcing leadership to build effective category strategies,  quantifying the sensitivity between variable commodity prices and business operating plans

§         Support business development and budgeting activities by publishing point-of-view (PoV) materials, market assessments, and standard forecasting data for Energy costs

§         Build an Energy Council comprised of BU and Risk Management participants; develop and sustain a collaborative demand planning process and a standardized planning calendar

§         Build and support the processes necessary to manage the physical purchase of Energy, including risk-compliant processes for forward purchases

§         Create the standard templates and tools to support competitive bidding and contracting

§         Improve stakeholder commitment to Energy contracts and sourcing strategies by implementing a broad communication program to the North American site leaders

§         Formulate a multi-year category management plan for refreshing the complex portfolio of energy supply, transportation and local delivery agreements

§         Achieve Aleris EBITA goals through effective Energy Procurement and supplier management including source selection, negotiation, contract implementation and compliance management

§         Apply quantitative methods for assessing lowest total cost for Energy including the proper blend of price, forward buys, service levels and commercial terms

§         Demonstrate proactive methods for monitoring the supply base and the market, anticipating potential supply disruptions and mitigating risk

§         Resolve supplier performance issues and manage 3rd party relationships

 

Qualifications - Required

§         BS in a technical or business discipline Undergraduate degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Accounting  or Operations Management. MBA is a plus.

§         Ability to travel up to 10%, as necessary; mainly to the North American plant locations

§         Minimum 5 years experience in sourcing, procurement, negotiations or contract management

§         Demonstrated experience in negotiating and managing multi-year supplier agreements

§         Ability to clearly communicate well-documented facts and analyses to senior leadership

§         Minimum two years of experience with sourcing, negotiating or, managing Energy contracts

§         Familiarity with Natural Gas supply chain and the supply and delivery of natural gas.

§         Proficiency with MS-Office software: Excel and PowerPoint. Access and Project is a plus.

§         Demonstrated experience with planning, managing and applying detailed quantitative analyses such as total cost modeling, forecasting or production planning.

§         Experience with reconciling disparate and incomplete data sources to develop well-documented and supportable recommendations.

§         Experience with the application of hedging and derivative financial instruments to long term supply agreements in commodity markets is a plus.

§         Understanding of Electricity Generation industry and Electricity supply and delivery agreements Familiarity with best practices for Energy management in production operations is a plus.

§         Experience with electronic bidding and contracting tools is a plus.

§         APICS or CSCMP is a plus. Certified Energy Procurement (CEP) Credential is a plus.
