ROLE SUMMARY

The Wellness R&D team is looking for a self-motivated scientific leader to join our diverse and skilled group of scientists focusing on Dietary Supplements. Dietary Supplements are a multibillion dollar business worldwide with PCH Multivitamins being the #2 branded leader globally, including brands such as Centrum, Emergen-C, and Caltrate.

The scientist will design innovative supplement products that both delight people and support their nutritional health around the globe.  These products will vary in from, ranging from traditional powders and tablets to more innovative liquids and food-like forms.  Designing our products with the consumer at its heart is an integral part of Pfizer product design and sets our products apart from others. 

The scientist will work in an innovation group, being able to work well with ambiguity and being agile in changing directions with new learnings.  The candidate will solve complex problems both by using multiple problem-solving and innovative tools/techniques and by finding collaborative partners within and outside of Pfizer.  The scientist will demonstrate technical leadership by leading technical teams to execute the development of new products, collaborating with cross-functional project teams, and clearly communicating technical results to colleagues and management. The product development will involve both establishing the process & scale-up in the manufacturing plant, which will require travel.  The Wellness R&D team has a strong technical community and the scientist is expected to contribute to other development programs or initiatives where their expertise or experience can add benefit, in addition to their assigned projects.  The scientist will also contribute to the larger scientific community through an active role in a professional organization, technical publications, intellectual property and/or public recognition.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Global R&D Product Design

  • Technical Leadership: Independently serves as a technical lead for projects and technology initiatives
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Builds effective and collaborative working relationships with business and cross-functional partners on projects
  • Technical Analysis: Performs data collection and analysis, creates conclusions, and effectively communicates information to supervisor in the form of discussions and reports
  • Technical Writing: Authors’ protocols, reports and other technical documents (e.g. specifications, stability programs, etc.)
  • Technical Partnerships: Works closely with internal experts or third party manufacturers (GMOs) to rapidly develop products
  • Technical Transfers: Provides support in the transfer of product formulations to internal and external production facilities
  • Technical Knowledge: Demonstrates strong subject matter knowledge commensurate with experience.

  • Consumer Focus: Partners in designing and utilizing results of consumer research to translate consumer needs into products that delight the consumer
  • Innovative Technologies: Identifying and building innovative technology capabilities and approaches.  Aggressively pursues intellectual property and patent applications
  • Innovative Problem Solving: Utilizes Innovative thinking & tools, appropriate resources, and personal knowledge and experience to solve problems and enable development of new and different Wellness products for consumers

Compliance

  • Assures awareness and compliance with current and developing regulations with Boards of Health (i.e. FDA, MCA), other regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DEA) and with corporate policies.
  • Complete all current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and/or safety training as applicable to job requirements.
  • Perform job responsibilities in compliance with cGMP, GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements, where applicable.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have a science degree in a relevant field.

  • BS degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience in the Food, Confectionary, Nutraceutical or Pharmaceutical industry
  • MS degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience in the Food, Confectionary, Nutraceutical or Pharmaceutical industry
  • Possesses proven written and oral communication skills and necessary organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Has developed experience or education in confectionary or food delivery systems
  • Is able to navigate through ambiguity and is agile in their work
  • Works independently, with minimal guidance
  • Is passionate about finding innovative solutions focused on delighting consumers

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting for extended periods of time at a desk or table to complete documentation and computer work, ability to lift up to 25 pounds

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

The ability to travel to fulfill business needs approximately 30% of the time as required
