About the Company:  Our client is one of the world's largest and most highly respected petroleum and petrochemical companies, an integrated Major with exploration, production, refining, and chemical operations throughout the world. It is also the world's leading producer of thermoplastic elastomers and related specialty polymers.

Role Overview:  This position involves the development and deployment of novel polyethylene resins for film applications. As part of a multi-disciplinary team of product, process, and catalyst experts, you will provide guidance for producing polyethylene compositions with improved physical properties. Knowledge of structure/property relationships and Design Of Experiments is essential. You will evaluate resins resulting from lab and pilot plant studies and support semi-commercial and commercial production runs. Once optimal performance is demonstrated on in-house equipment, you will support licensee trials on commercial-scale blown and/or cast film lines. Strong interpersonal skills are required to be effective in leading product development within multi-disciplinary teams and for collaborating with customers.

The initial assignment will be in support of improved polyethylene resins for the company's major Joint Venture licensed gas phase polyethylene process technology and catalysts.

Background Requirements:

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar field
  • 7-10+ total years of experience in the development, application and commercial production of PE films
  • Familiarity with polymer science and polyolefin technology
  • Demonstrated record of success in development and commercialization of improved films for industrial or consumer packaging
  • Knowledge of relationships between resin properties, multi-layer film technology and blown or cast film extrusion conditions
  • Experience with industry-standard test methods for characterizing polyethylene resins and assessment of film properties, including rheology, NMR, IR, GPC, and cross-fractionation analysis
  • Practical knowledge of additives for film applications
  • Strong analytical and communication skills 
  • Experience giving technical presentations and a desire to provide technical recommendations and training to clients
