Job Title:  Product Design Engineer 

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Supervises:  No one directly

Education/Experience Required:  Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited or equivalent institution is preferred. Equivalent education and experience will be considered and / or evaluated. Minimum four years experience with appliance / consumer product engineering (i.e. product planning, data analysis, design development, production support, etc). Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: Gas combustion, thermodynamics / heat transfer modeling or analysis, product design cycles, reliability planning and testing. Additionaly, knowledge of Solar Power and Heat Pumps would be a tremendous advantage.

Job Purpose: Design of new products, the redesign of existing products and field applications.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prototype builds and test of new and current products.


• Work with others on reliability planning and testing of product change or new design.


• Confirm final product design and testing to applicable agency standards.


• Monitor the release of design to manufacturing and assist with all Mock-up and Trial Run requirements.


• Must work with many people in various groups to lead and facilitate the needs of a design project.


• Proactive, hands on problem solving skills.


• Provide hardware and documentation to certification labs to obtain product and agency safety approval


• Respond to plant requests for information and assistance


• Provide cost references of designs as required.


• Work with purchasing to procure materials and outside parts and obtain cost and lead time


• Check drawings and Bills of Material for new models and change requests


• Direct/conduct/review performance tests of new, existing, and competitors’ products.
