Position Summary:
The Topping Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating activities of production department(s) in processing materials, manufacturing or packaging products by performing the following duties personally or through respective supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Review production orders/schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to effectively plan operations.
· Participate in development and approval of production schedule for respective areas.
· Plan production operations, establish priorities and sequencing for manufacturing, optimize crew levels and output.
· Coordinate operational schedules and manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets or exceeds specifications.
· Assess production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and operational delays.
· Evaluate daily production statistics and results against current expectations and apply corrective measures where applicable. (Performance management)
· Develop and/or revises SOP’s and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance.
· Resolve worker complaints or submits unsettled complaints to Human Resources.
· Maintain safe operating practices. Meets safety guidelines and recommends changes to equipment, processes, workspace, tools, and other factors that may play a role in department and plant wide.
· Exceed production rate standards and optimize crewing levels to meet or surpass NPP cost targets.
· Drive process improvement activities, which will result in meeting or exceeding current NPP expectations through variances (i.e. labor, material usage), crew reductions, production rate increases, sanitation, quality improvements and safety initiatives.
· Lead the implementation team on new items to be run in shift operations.
· Implement and develops subordinates through proper training and coaching.
· Successor development planning through identification, coaching and mentoring.
· Review, enforce, and recommend GMP rules and regulations.
· Interpret and enforce company policies with all plant employees.
· Participates in accident investigation review to assist with preventing and eliminating plant wide hazards.
· Encourage open, two-way communication at all levels.
· Establish collaborative relationships with other functions. Lead cross-functional teams tasked with solving production problems.
· Reports promptly to department manager when delays occur, estimates time of delay and take appropriate action to minimize production losses.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages between 3 - 5 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 15 - 20 employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Skills and Experience:
· Four to ten years’ related experience and /or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of executives, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
· Must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Will have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Graphical analytical abilities and basic SPC understanding.
· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. The ability to utilize business computers and programs currently utilized in normal business operations.
