Production Planning Engineer

Description:
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory seeks a Production Planning Engineer to develop production work flows in support of design and fabrication tasking.
* Utilize expertise in industrial/manufacturing engineering to work with fabrication engineers and technical staff to plan fabrication process flows that support the development of production plans and schedules for individual tasks and the total portfolio of tasking supported by the organization.
* Meet with customers, manufacturing engineers to understand requirements as they pertain to the development of production plans and schedules.
* Interface with other members of the production planning office to insure that plans are developed that meet customer requirements.
* Develop the processes and concept for operations that will support the production planning and management function.
* Maintain and revise processes and operational constructs as required to improve production planning performance.
* Work with the MRP application engineers to help define functional requirements and support the configuration of the tools to meet production planning needs for scheduling, resource management, materials ordering and control, quality documentation, status tracking and reporting and capture of non-conforming product.
* Back up the Production Planning Manager in overseeing production planning operations and provide leadership and direction for the production planning team as required.

Qualifications:
Required:
* BS in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
* Minimum of 10 yrs. experience; expertise in industrial/production oriented engineering with specific experience in developing fabrication process plans, production work flows, developing schedules and resource loadings, and managing resources and materials.
* Proficiency in project management and the utilization of MRP Software, MS Project and MS Excel.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Desired:
* MS in Engineering field.
* Specific experience in a high mix, low volume, high reliability aerospace production environment.
* Strong understanding of hand, automated and mixed electronics assembly processes and the associated materials flows.
* Experience operating in AS 9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
