Position Summary: Plans and prepares weekly production schedule in close cooperation with sales & procurement to ensure maximum efficiency in production while also ensuring quantities of inventory are available for order fulfillment. Reviews finished goods inventories & customer orders regularly to ensure superior order fill rate as well as reviewing material inventories ensuring materials are available to meet production schedules.
Functions & Responsibilities:
- Preparing & issuing weekly production schedule; updating & changing the schedule as conditions warrant
- Reviewing finished goods inventories, checking QC hold messages & customer orders to ensure inventory is available to meet customer demand
- Reviewing raw material inventories to ensure sufficient materials are available to meet production requirements
- Preparing the weekly block requirements report while working closely with QA on availability of blocks & grades to run production for following week; alerting Procurement of any issues
- Monitoring school & other bids, working closely with Sales personnel to ensure inventory is available to meet order flow
- Reacting efficiently to unplanned sales orders, making schedule changes on a weekly & sometimes daily basis to meet demand
- Monitoring scallop inventories, preparing transfer orders to procure sufficient quantities to meet customer demand and ship dates, as well as preparing re-work orders as necessary
- Ordering labels as required to meet production schedules and coordinating new product labels with R&D Dept and outside printer vendors
- Monitoring inventories of co-packed items & coordinating customer scheduling and availability of inventories
- Communicating regularly with co-pack production planning dept to ensure ever changing demands are met
- Assigning new product codes and completing Bill of Materials for each new processed product
- Issuing various daily & monthly reports to management
Specific Accountabilities:
- Prepare & monitor weekly production schedule to keep processed inventory levels in line with expectations while maintaining a high level of order fill rates
- Work closely with production personnel to ensure the schedule allows for efficient operation of the plant; limiting changeovers and downtime
- Coordinate production with co-packers to ensure their production meets expectations while allowing plant to run efficiently
- Monitor scallop inventories and issue internal transfer orders to keep scallop inventories at levels to meet customer demand and ship dates
- Order labels for regular production and work in conjunction with R&D and outside printer vendors on new label requirements
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years experience in production planning/scheduling in a manufacturing environment, preferably in food or seafood processing industry
- Incumbent must have the ability to react quickly to changing demands and be able to work cooperatively with diverse groups including Sales, Production, Procurement, Purchasing and R&D
- A thorough understanding of the production process and the limitation of production equipment
