Production SOA Support Engineer - 779

Position Description

This position is for an entry level support engineer on the Production SOA Team. You will work with senior architects, developers, support engineers, database and system administrators on the Production SOA team to learn to design, build, operate, maintain and support the Coast Guard’s Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) solutions and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) infrastructure. You will also be part of the core 24x7 support team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with senior architects, administrators, engineers and developers on the Production SOA team and various other Coast Guard technical teams to learn to help design, implement, document and maintain Production Service Oriented Architecture solutions for multiple Coast Guard business units.
  • Provide production support of applications, databases and supporting software and infrastructure associated with the Enterprise Service Bus and Production SOA.
  • Provide 7x24 duty analyst support to SOA infrastructure as a member of the Production SOA team rotating on call duty roster.
  • Work to troubleshoot SOA production problems and work effectively with other team members to promptly identify and address problems.
  • Create/maintain/use Linux shell, SQL, custom applications or BMC Patrol, HP OpenView and other tools to monitor the performance of the ESB, associated databases and/or to automate routine tasks.
  • Perform data analysis related to SOA metrics to provide the team and the command with timely and accurate information pertinent to SOA service level performance.
  • Work with the Production SOA team to perform documentation, licensing, application and data management tasks as required. This includes (but is not limited to) writing standards and documents, managing procurement, distribution, tracking, loading, configuring, restoring, and removing software licenses. Documenting and maintaining configuration information and source code for scripts and application code in conjunction with the members of the PSOA team and our customers.
  • Prepare clear written instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Help to develop, write and validate enterprise governance standards
  • Research, test, and coordinate SOA software patches/upgrades.
  • Work with Production SOA team to develop implement and maintain SOA security policies
  • Interact with technical teams and vendor support organizations to resolve issues.
  • Perform backup and recovery, moving databases from host to host, renaming databases, Imports and Exports, and other normal DBA duties.
  • Work with Production SOA team to develop solid knowledge in configuration management/administration including installing, upgrading, configuring, monitoring and tuning SOA software and related products, backup and recovery policies and procedures, XML security appliance configuration & maintenance (creating and maintaining policies, users, roles, and privileges), ESB tuning and performance monitoring, application/message flow tuning and performance monitoring

 

 

Supervisor: Production SOA Functional Area Manager & Production SOA Technical Lead

 

Required Education: BS, BA or equivalent practical experience. (BS in Computer Science/Math/Engineering strongly preferred).

 

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Additional Desired Skills:

  • 1-3 years of operational experience with installing, configuring and maintaining software or database products (Oracle or Sybase preferred) within a Linux environment is strongly preferred.
  • UNIX/LINUX and Java knowledge is a plus as this position will assist LINUX system administrators and Java developers in a high availability ESB environment using asynchronous messaging (JMS) and Java application servers.
  • Familiarity with data architecture and UML modeling highly desirable.
  • Linux shell and/or SQL programming experience highly desirable.
  • Experience with Sybase PowerDesigner or other enterprise data modeling tools a plus
  • Java programming and Javascript/Groovy scripting knowledge is a plus
  • Familiarity with object-relational mapping frameworks such as Hibernate, nHiberate, JDO, etc helpful.
  • Background in security technologies such as single sign on, AD, Kerberos, SSL, SAML a plus.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery and high availability scenarios highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of software development and ability to support and work within standard software development life cycle practices a plus.
