We are seeking a Professional Services Manager for our Hillsboro, OR, location.

 

The Professional Services Manager is responsible for ensuring the success of implementation projects through operations, process, and resource management. This position is expected to provide day-to-day guidance to professional services staff to ensure timely, high quality delivery of software for core implementation projects. The PS Manager is responsible for coordinating with the PS Resource Manager to effectively project and manage PS staffing needs.   In addition, the manager is responsible for supporting business development efforts by scoping, drafting, estimating, and delivering proposals for implementation services.

 

Scope and Accountability

 

The Professional Services Manager will be assigned as technical oversight on one or more customer implementation projects. The manager will be accountable for scope and schedule setting and management of the team to that scope and schedule. (In many cases, this includes working with the customer-facing project manager to mutually define scope and schedule.)

The manager is responsible for the total quality of the software deliverables in their domain, making sure that they are secure, perform well and are generally free of defects.

 

This individual is accountable for the quantity and quality of their own work and the work of their team, their team’s internal relationships and internal and external customer relations, and the growth of their team’s technical skills to match future requirements of their positions.

 

Essential Functions/Job Duties

§         Directs software development projects of varying sizes through hands-on management of development team. Generally manages a team of 5-12 individual contributors.

§         Works with team to build relevant Software Development Plan, engineering requirements, estimates and schedule.

§         Monitors the billable utilization of direct reports and proactively works to keep staff highly utilized.

§         Ensures projects are completed on time and according to product specifications and corporate quality standards.  Ensures products are properly documented.

§         Accurately tracks team project schedules and milestones.

§         Reviews requirements. Provides input as necessary to guide project development towards tactical and strategic objectives.

§         Works with peers to manage cross-project dependencies and risks.

§         Acts as a resource to all team members to help remove hindrances to their success.

§         Ensures that documentation gets appropriate level of technical review support.

§         Ensures production support processes are in place for all products and projects turned over to Customer Service.

§         Identifies and fills staffing needs. Manages personnel activities of staff (i.e., hires, trains, appraises, rewards, motivates, disciplines, recommends termination as necessary, etc.).

§         Prepares Statements of Work and estimates for implementation services proposals.

§         Acts as a senior solution architect helping lead customers through scoping sessions to define an implementation solution.

§         Selects and mentors team leads.

§         Proactively identifies areas for process and organizational improvement.

§         Proactively identifies and deploy best practices in software development and professional services management.

§         Maintains high quality internal and external relationships. Acts as a high quality service provider to downstream organizations.

§         Promotes a culture of innovation, self-improvement and commitment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

§         Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

§         3+ years of experience in the computer software industry, preferably in a systems integration / consulting organization

§         5+ years of software development experience in conjunction with professional service implementations

§         Excellent skills in critical thinking, conceptual thinking and problem solving

§         2+ years of software implementation delivery experience with Windows-based systems

§         2+ years experience developing Internet-based solutions

§         4+ years of experience managing professional services implementations

§         Demonstrated planning, communication and technical skills

§         Demonstrated experience with the complete product development life cycles, especially waterfall development and models similar to Rational Unified Process

§         Financial services industry experience, familiarity with eFinance applications, understanding of ecommerce implementation considerations, and project management experience are all a plus

§         Experience with non-Microsoft systems (especially UNIX and Linux) is a plus.

§         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

§         Passion for delivering quality implementations and creating referenceable customers

§         Must be willing to travel up to 50%
