Program Chair for Computer Science and Information Systems

Job Summary

 

Transfers knowledge and skills to students. Creates a positive customer-oriented environment while promoting high educational standards.  Defines and enforces high-quality academic standards and fosters an effective motivational environment to achieve positive educational results for all customers.  Develops quality, applied educational products by facilitating higher learning in and out of the classroom.  Provides course scheduling, textbook ordering, transcript evaluation, student advising, evaluation of Adjunct faculty, and other tasks as assigned.  Administers high-level customer service to ensure retention of students through excellence of academic support services in order to enable students to succeed in their academic endeavors.  Serves on campus and university-wide committees.  Develops and maintains community relationships in support of the CTU mission. 

Job Functions

 Program Chair level position responsible for direction and coordination of academic programs within the department.  Provides support to students through advising, transfer credit approval, registration, and next level handling of student issues and complaints.  Manages faculty loading, class scheduling and textbook ordering.  Supervises adjunct faculty; manages and performs adjunct faculty evaluation.  Supports the President, DOE, and VPAA through curricular and assessment activities.  Provides faculty support through orientation, training and mentoring.  Introduction of new educational products, marketing, course development, course maintenance, textbooks and faculty.  Develop adjunct faculty pool.  Assists in the development and implementation of assessment activities; monitors assessment of courses and programs.  Participates in the budgeting process; operates within budget constraints.  Participates in development and management of local corporate programs.  Maintains liaison with industry, accreditation, community and government organizations as needed.  Works with advisory boards.  Teaches courses as needed, typically three classes a session.  Works closely with Admissions on academic and student-related matters.  Nurtures a positive work and learning environment.  Ensures functionality of CTU computer labs by following CTU Lab Acceptance policy.  Performs other duties as assigned.  

Required Experience

  • Requires a Masters Degree in Computer Science; Doctorate in Computer Science preferred. 
  • Five years of academic/management experience is required,
  • Recommended continuous improvement of technical knowledge and skills relating to management and teaching functions. 
  • On-going professional activities and training are encouraged. 
  • The job requires a good knowledge of C2K, Word, Excel and Power Point and other Office software applications. 
  • Requires strong communication skills both verbal and written.
