About the Job

Purpose 

 

The Program Manager is responsible for the overall success of each assigned program. Responsibility to plan, monitor and control the program throughout its life cycle.  Must meet the planned schedule, budget and scope of the program.  Ability to implement the program according to PerkinElmer procedures. The Program Manager will be the point of contact (POC) for all customer interactions.

Ø  Coordinates multiple conflicting tasks to complete the program requirements to customer’s satisfaction. The Program Manager is the primary point of contact.

Ø  Responsible for direct customer communication relating to program status and progress

Ø  Responsible for tracking and analyzing program progress throughout the program lifecycle while working with project team and responsible functional managers.

Ø  Anticipates potential program risks and develops mitigation and corrective action plans. Monitors risks throughout the program lifecycle.

Ø  Coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product with design and operations personnel

Ø  Writes external and internal program reports and documentation

Ø  Works closely with design and manufacturing departments to prioritize and coordinate efforts

Ø  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ø  Develops program plans according to project complexity, including work breakdown structure. Develops consensus to schedule internally and externally. Negotiates Project Team with agreement of Functional Managers.

Ø  Controls project scope with customer and insures project team is aware of agreed project scope and /or changes to scope. Mitigates cost and schedule impacts through contracts.

Ø  Coordinates all material requirements for project. Works with procurement to ensure that all orders get placed in the system and get placed with the vendor.

Ø  Coordinates all project aspects with Customer including operational, delivery, scope. Arranges customer meetings including site visits, base line evaluations, design reviews, etc. Insures all meetings/visits are communicated and documented appropriately including tracking of action items and conclusions.

Ø  Reports to management the status of each program using effort, duration, and cost metrics.

Ø  Closes out project with post delivery margin calculation, effort and schedule variance, Lessons Learned meeting with recommendations for improvement, Customer Survey, and Documentation Clean Up/Archive.

Ø  Demonstrated ability to perform complex assignments on schedule with minimum supervision            

Ø  Ability to develop creative and innovative solutions while working with minimal supervision

Ø  Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ø  Minimal air travel.  Customer site visits will be occasionally required

Ø  Develops quotations based on customer requests.

Ø  Works with engineering to assure program integrity and deliverables being met in accordance with the contracted specifications and requirements.

Ø  Recommends new processes, where needed, to improve on-time delivery.

Ø  Responsible for meeting or exceeding both the profit and sales goals.

Ø  Responsible for meeting program time, scope and cost requirements as determined by the program contract.

 

Critical Success Factors 

 

Ø  Technical Skills:  Requires a B.S. degree in Engineering or Management discipline with a minimum of 8 years experience in Project/Program Management or equivalent training and experience. Project Management Professional, PMP certification preferred.

Ø  Communication Skills: Communicates in a positive, proactive manner. Effectively communicates with and engages all stakeholders verbally and in writing; translates technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications; produces clear, understandable documentation.

Ø  Management of Resources: Allocates time and resources efficiently, focusing on ever-shifting priorities; continually seeks way to improve individual/team efficiency.  Demonstrates ability to be an effective leader and manager in a matrix-reporting environment.

Ø  Business & Organization Knowledge:  Understands the PerkinElmer business and the impact of Program Management within the organization.
