Program Manager
Position Description:
The Media Applications Platform Services team builds the core systems that drive RealNetworks various consumer services, including: RealGuide, RealArcade, RollingStone.com, and the Rhapsody Subscription Music Service. These core systems include a state of the art content management system, user data services, and media authentication/authorization systems.
The Content Management System (CMS) Group, part of Real Networks’ consumer platform, provides content management services/solutions for all of Real Networks consumer services including Rhapsody, Realarcade.com, Film.com etc. The content management system includes a core data model to store meta-data, a rich set of web services and editorial tools, a fast publishing platform and a service layer backed by a caching model to expose content meta-data.
CMS Group is seeking a highly motivated and talented Program Manager with a strong interest in evolving business critical Content services and APIs.
The Program Manager will be responsible for planning, specification, scheduling, and coordination of development projects. The Program Manager will work very closely with other program managers, product marketing, development and QA teams, and other RealNetworks product, technology and operations teams.
Candidates must have solid technical/system analyst skills to allow productive project definition and communication with developers. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to work on several projects simultaneously, show a great attention to detail and have excellent project management skills. A strong business sense is essential as is a demonstrated ability to work effectively with many teams to deliver complex projects on time. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Development projects may include regular shorter duration projects (2-3 weeks) and medium/long term projects (multi-month). Minimum 4 years of experience delivering large software projects is required. 2 years of development or QA experience is preferred
1. Program management of CMS services. Includes assistance with high level scoping, requirements definition and creation of functional specification documentation.
2. Project management of CMS-related projects. Management of schedules, deliverables, issue tracking and status reporting. Close and ongoing interaction with development and QA staff.
3. Helping plan the future of RealNetworks’ CMS systems and build product roadmaps.
4. Keep up to date on the latest tools/trends in project management and suggest/implement process improvements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum:
• Strong technical ability. Be able to understand the existing system quickly and independently and use the same to gather requirements for system extensions
• Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Be able to write effective functional requirements/specifications
• Proven track record of delivering multiple software projects from beginning to the end
• Be able to effectively communicate with other PGMs, Development, QA and Product Management groups
• Prior experience working with offshore
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
• Knowledge of and experience with web/middle-tier technologies, frameworks e.g., (Linux, Java, Tomcat etc)
• Good understanding of multi-tier architecture, distributed systems with high availability requirements
• Experience in Scrum/Agile methodologies is a plus
Education, Certification, and/or Training:
Minimum:
• Bachelor's degree.
Preferred:
• B.S. in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related discipline
• Experience with project management tools such as MS Project
