Program Manager, Violence Intervention Advocate Program - Emergency Department

The Violence Intervention Advocate program (VIAP) is a collaboration with the Boston Medical Center's Emergency Department and the Boston Public Heath Commission Men's Health Program.  The mission of VIAP is to assist victims of violence to recover from physical and emotional trauma and connect them with opportunities to develop skills, and obtain services so they can return to their communities and make positive changes in their lives. The Program Manager, under the supervision of the Program Director, will plan and direct all activities of the VIAP including, program development, staff supervision, data reporting  and liaisoning with community resources, funding agencies and subcontractors. 
 


  • Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field.

  • License as a clinical social worker (LICSW) preferred.

  • Minimum 3 year clinical experience working in an urban area with diverse populations and vulnerable clients.

  • Minimum 2 years program management experience.

  • Working knowledge of program evaluation and research. 

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.

  • Ability to promote a positive work environment.

  • Proficient with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers.

  • This position requires direct client contact and as a result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties. 

  • A Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI) request must be completed for this position.  However, a record is not an automatic bar to employment but is reviewed in relation to the job applied for.
