Job Purpose The Programmer will function as a mid to high-level technician working on moderate to complex work requests. As a member of a project team, the Programmer is responsible for providing application development and operational system support through design/analysis, coding, testing, documenting, maintaining, and upgrading of new and existing applications. Project management responsibilities include identifying the scope of assigned projects, generating solutions to technical issues, and providing deliverables in a timely and efficient manner. The Programmer will also be responsible for reporting to management detailed project requirements, on-going status reports, and documented results. This individual will also interface with customers to assist in the implementation of work requests. The incumbent must be adaptive to the use of new software aids and programming techniques as they are acquired or adopted within IT. The Programmer may also research and provide recommendations in support of procurement and development of application needs. In the Marketing Development group the Programmer must code, debug and test application programs in a Unix and web based environment. The applicant must have solid hands-on experience working with complex SQL applications. Experience in Java Web Development is highly desirable. Experience using tools such as ColdFusion, JSP, JSF, Business Objects, Perl, or Actuate is a plus. A high priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated leadership skills.
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) - Successful completion of an analytical aptitude exam;
- Strong project management and written/verbal communication skills are required;
- Must have a propensity for problem-solving and be able to read and debug system dumps;
- Solid experience working with methodologies and designing well-defined project life cycles;
- Demonstrated experience with successful system and project implementations; and
- Familiarity with life insurance systems mainframe development is desirable.
Education and Experience Required - Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and/or education;
- Programmers must have at least three years of hands-on work experience developing web based applications.
