About the Job

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a leading education research organization specializing in all aspects of education and other social policy issues. Our programs aim to improve the quality of education for all people by evaluating the effectiveness of education initiatives, conducting basic education research, and furnishing technical assistance and training at national, state, and local levels. We are currently seeking a Project Director for our Georgetown offices in Washington, D.C. The Project Director-Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) oversees the management of projects by contributing leadership and expertise in assistive and learning technologies and STEM education, particularly as it relates to the achievement of struggling and under-represented students.

The key responsibilities of the Project Director-STEM include:
•Lead and coordinate complex components of large projects or series of smaller projects.
•Manage employees and facilitate focus groups/workshops to clarify information and processes.
•Apply advanced analytical and/or statistical methods related to project work.
•Review, analyze and synthesize information using appropriate practices and techniques and ensure all projects are conducted with sound practices.
•Contribute ideas and information to support project efforts through the publication of papers.
•Serve as client contact for analytical expertise.
•Develop conceptual frameworks that guide project work. Collaborate with quantitative or qualitative researchers to design and develop questionnaires, instruments and databases.
•Disseminate findings through publication of papers, progress and technical reports and presentation of seminars.
•Apply appropriate techniques to collect, analyze and report quantitative data at a senior level
•Supplement proposals and contribute to business development efforts.

•Master’s degree in with 5-7 years of relevant work experience in the social sciences or related field or a PHD in a related field with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
•Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
•Sustained success in writing, conceptualizing, analyzing, and consulting.
•Experience managing detailed projects and small teams.
•Experience and familiarity of professional publication required.
•SPSS/SAS or other statistical software preferred.
•Knowledge of methodology used to collect, analyze, and report quantitative data preferred.
