Project Engineer - Control Systems and Instrumenta

About the Job

A Control Systems and Instrumentation Project Engineer is part of the facility's Project Engineering group. The Project Engineering group is responsible scoping, estimating, design, and implementation of capital projects at the facility. This position reports to the Control Systems Manager. Overall responsibilities include:

· Design of process control systems including instrumentation for specialty chemical manufacturing.
· Implementing any capital or support activities on schedule and in a cost effective manner.
· Managing multiple projects and activities while prioritizing the work consistent with plant and corporate objectives.
DUTIES/RESONSIBILITIES:
The control systems and instrument project engineer’s responsibilities include both project engineering functions and technical support.
Project Engineering:
· Lead projects or provide assistance to other project leads & engineers.
· Participate and lead project scoping meetings to develop process, control system, and instrument design requirements. Project lead must consider both the project objectives and longer term needs of the facility. Document scope and develop project cost estimate.
· Collaborate with multiple individuals on projects including: all engineering disciplines, vendors, consultants, operations management, maintenance technicians, and operators.
· Management and coordination of internal and external control system and instrumentation design resources.
· Facilitate project design work; instrument drawings, instrumentation sizing and selection, define control strategies, and operator interface to control system (graphics). Review and apply codes and engineering standards related to project requirements.
· Experience with batch chemical processes and related equipment. Demonstrated experience implementing batch process control based on S88 standards.
· Specify and procure instrumentation and control system equipment. Experience with SAP and Integraph SPI Intools a plus.
· Develop and facilitate construction activities, system acceptance tests, and instrument commissioning. Work with operations to develop start up plans.
· Experience with instrument commissioning and loop check field devices. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting control and interlock logic.
Technical Support:
· Troubleshoot plant equipment and systems. Propose modifications to existing processes and process control strategies. Provide support for loop tuning and process optimization.
· Maintain facility standards and conventions for instrumentation and control system standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Chemical engineering and at least five years of project control system and instrumentation experience in a chemical manufacturing facility.
· Ability to make independent decisions on engineering problems. Verbal and written communication with others on a professional level. Excellent interpersonal skills.
· Experience with the following process control systems: Emerson DeltaV, and Siemens APACS. Experience with fieldbus networks such as Foundation Fieldbus, ASi, and DeviceNet
· Working knowledge of ISA (Instrument Society of America) terminology and symbolism.
· Awareness of OSHA, NFPA and other governing bodies and design to their standards where applicable.
CONSIDERED A PLUS:
· Experience with Emerson DeltaV and Integraph Smart Plant Instrumentation
· Experience with safety systems based on IEC61511
· Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs.

Job Experience:
At least five years of project control system and instrumentation experience in a chemical manufacturing facility.
